    ENSEMBLE3 is a new Centre of Excellence for nanophotonics, advanced materials, and novel crystal growth-based technologies located in Warsaw, Poland, created jointly by the Łukasiewicz Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics, the University of Warsaw (Poland), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), the Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), and the Nanoscience Research Center nanoGUNE (Spain). The ENSEMBLE3 Centre will work on the development of novel material technologies and advanced materials with unique electromagnetic properties, with potential applications in fields such as photonics, optoelectronics, telecommunication, solar energy conversion, medicine, and aerospace.

    Description:
    Post-doc positions are open in the “Optical Nanocharacterization” group. We seek candidates interested in unveiling and harnessing outstanding optical properties in innovative crystal-based nanomaterials and metamaterials (plasmonic, polaritonic, epsilon-near-zero, high refractive index, cavity, hybrid phenomena, light management and shaping…).
    We seek candidates experienced with:
    - Advanced optical spectroscopy (such as s-SNOM, nano- and micro- FTIR, TERS, TEF, time-resolved confocal fluorescence microscopy, micro-spectrometry, or related).
    - Advanced numerical methods (such as transfer matrix, FEM, FDTD, effective medium, fitting, inverse problem, optimization, or related).
    - Understanding the nanoscale physical origin of optical properties.
    - Fields such as photonics, plasmonics, nanostructures, nanomaterials, or metamaterials.

    Environnement : The student will work with a team of experienced researchers in the THz-Photonics group at IEMN Laboratory (https://photoniquethz.univ-lille.fr/en/). The group has a long lasting experience in the conception and realization of THz optoelectronic devices, and is fully equipped to carry out this project. The Laboratory hosts a 1500m2 clean-room with state of the art growth and fabrication facilities. IEMN is located in Lille, the capital of French Flanders, a vibrant city close to the Belgian border at 50 min by train from Paris-CDG airport.
    We are looking for a physics or engineering master student or equivalent. Having one of the following skills would greatly increase the chance of success of any application: Experimental optics – Spectroscopy – Python coding
    The exact tasks in which the student will be involved will be discussed together with him/her and the team and will depend on its capacities and taste as the needs of the team.     Postdoctoral position in high finesse fibered Fabry-Perot resonator development

    The candidate will be involved in the improvement of the technical steps leading to the fabrication of fibered Fabry-Perot resonators delimited with thin-film dielectric mirrors. This mainly experimental research work will be carried out in collaboration with Fresnel Institute (Marseille), RCMO team. It will consist in optimizing the preparation technique of FP resonators synchronously with the enhancement of the mirror design and deposition routine process done at Fresnel Institute. The component properties will be characterized in both laboratories. In parallel the development of an optoelectronic system for KFC generation will be studied and implemented in LAAS.

    Lasers organiques ultrabrefs à modes verrouillés en phase

    Nous recherchons un ou une post-doctorant.e qui prendra en charge la conception et la réalisation d’un laser organique à modes bloqués, ainsi que le volet simulation/modélisation. La caractérisation des impulsions brèves produites constituera un point clé dans la réussite du projet, et des échanges fréquents avec l’IOGS sur ce point sont à prévoir. La personne recrutée travaillera également à l’élaboration d’un modèle permettant de comprendre les rôles respectifs des propriétés photophysiques de la molécule et des propriétés de la cavité laser dans l’établissement du régime impulsionnel.

    Le ou la post-doctorant.e devra avoir un profil d’opticien.ne / laseriste, à l’aise à la fois avec l’expérimentation et la modélisation. Une expérience dans le domaine de l’optique ultra-brève (caractérisation des impulsions, simulations…) sera un plus. La connaissance de la photophysique des matériaux organiques sera appréciée mais n’est pas indispensable. Le ou la candidate devra avoir une forte autonomie, une solide ouverture d’esprit, un goût pour le travail en équipe et la recherche appliquée pluridisciplinaire.

    Ce post doc de 12 mois se déroulera dans le cadre du projet ANR « Plastic Ultrashort Lasers ». Il se déroulera au laboratoire de Physique des Lasers (Université Sorbonne Paris Nord et CNRS, Villetaneuse, France) en collaboration étroite avec le laboratoire Charles Fabry de l’Institut d’Optique Graduate School (Université Paris Saclay).     Sujet de thèse :

     

    PHOTOMIXING ANTENNA ARRAYS FOR TERAHERTZ WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS

    The overall objective of this thesis will be to develop sub‐THz front‐ends by photonic generation with several disruptive proofs of concepts at international level: - One of the first high‐gain photomixing antenna array with broad bandwidth. We will investigate the integration of UTC‐photodiodes with planar wideband antennas. Special attention will be paid to find the most appropriate materials and fabrication techniques for these arrays. - The developed photomixing arrays will also provide beam steering capabilities. By bringing one fiber to each photodetector, it is possible to control the phase of each element with true time delay and provide either beam steering or multiple beams. - Implement currently developed dual frequency optical sources to achieve the sub‐THz carrier compatible with photo‐mixer arrays. - Last but not least, the realized prototypes will be measured at IETR/Institut Foton facilities, and real‐time high data rates over medium or long distances in point‐to‐multipoint scenarios.
