SFO Thematic school 2027 : Photonics & AI

International School, The Houches Physics School, France, April 05 to 09, 2027

The school on Photonics & AI aims at exploring these bi-directionnal links between photonics and AI or machine learning, with state of the art lectures from the best experts in the respective fields. It is also aimed at training future experts in these fields, promoting an integral view and nurturing potential new ideas in these fast expanding fields.

Our objective is to bring together leading scientists, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers in the fields at the crossroads of photonics and AI. Our aim is to cover the most exciting and novel developments in the field, while also providing solid ground to newcomers and giving an overview of the field by providing introductory lectures.

The school will revolve around three major themes, namely:

  • Machine learning for photonic design
  • Photonic devices for efficient and fast AI & ML
  • Neuromorphic photonic hardware and algorithms

And coordinated by a scientific team:

  • Sylvain BARBAY (C2N)
  • Daniele MELATI (C2N)
  • Daniel BRUNNER (FEMTO-ST)

and by the SFO organizational team with
Florence HADDOUCHE (Secrétaire Générale - SFO)

Registration fee - 850€ to 900€

(730€ to 780€ + 120€ Extras services - Excl. Taxes)
The school is a limited number of 70 participants.

FEES INCLUDES

The Houches School of Physics, founded in 1951 by physicist Cécile DeWitt-Morette, is one of the world’s leading schools for advanced education in contemporary physics. Held every year in the exceptional setting of Les Houches in the French Alps, it brings together PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and internationally renowned scientists from around the world.

Over the decades, the School has established a unique international and interdisciplinary environment, where lectures and scientific discussions are complemented by informal exchanges, fostering new ideas, collaborations, and long-lasting scientific connections. Many distinguished physicists have contributed to its history, including several Nobel Prize laureates, who have shared their expertise and vision with successive generations of young researchers.

Today, the Houches School continues this tradition of excellence by offering high-level training on major and emerging topics in physics, while providing a unique opportunity for young scientists to interact directly with leading experts from the international research community.

By clicking here, you can explore all previous editions of the Thematic Schools held in Les Houches. Discover the topics covered over the years, browse the programmes of past editions, and find key information about these scientific events. It is a great opportunity to look back at the history of these schools and explore the many meetings that have contributed to making Les Houches a unique and renowned venue for scientific exchange and training.
