Cette école s’inscrit dans le cadre de l’effervescence actuelle liée à la physique des ondes dans les milieux complexes.
Cette thématique couvre non seulement l’optique, les ondes radios, mais également l’acoustique (ondes sonores, ultrasonores, sismiques) et même les ondes de matière. En optique, elle est particulièrement importante pour de nombreuses applications : imagerie biomédicale, photonique, milieux bio-inspirés ou optique atomique pour ne citer que quelques exemples.
L’essor récent de ces applications est néanmoins indissociable de très riches développements en physique fondamentale : le transport cohérent et la localisation d’Anderson, les effets coopératifs, la théorie des matrices aléatoires, sont des domaines où les progrès récents ont ouvert de nouveaux champs d’applications inimaginables il y a encore quelques années.

L’ambition de cette école est de rassembler les meilleurs spécialistes internationaux du domaine, théoriciens comme expérimentateurs, capables de donner des bases solides sur les fondamentaux du transport des ondes, de l’imagerie, du contrôle des ondes en milieu complexe et de la physique atomique, en insistant sur les analogies entre les différents types d’ondes et de milieux.

Le format long (2 semaines), ainsi que la combinaison de cours magistraux (6 à 8h) et de séminaires plus courts éclairant certains des développements les plus récents, s’adressent tout particulièrement aux doctorants, postdoctorants et jeunes chercheurs académiques ou de R&D, désirant approfondir leurs connaissances dans cette thématique.

This school falls in line with the current rich activity in the physics of waves in complex media.
This research field not only covers optics, radio waves, but also acoustics (ultrasonic or seismic waves) and even quantum matter waves. In optics, it is especially important for a number of applications: biomedical imaging, photonics, bio-inspired materials or atom optics to give a few examples.
The recent growth of these applications is, nevertheless, strongly connected with rich advances in fundamental physics: coherent transport and Anderson localization, cooperative effects, random-matrix theory, constitute fields where the progresses in the recent years have opened a new range of possibilities for applications.
The objective of this school is to gather the best international specialists of the field, theoreticians and experimentalists, able to give solid bases on wave transport, imaging, control of waves in complex media and atomic physics, paying a particular attention to the analogies between different types of waves and materials.

The duration of the school (two weeks), as well as the combination of general lectures (6 to 8 hours) and of shorter seminars shedding light on the most recent developments, make the school especially dedicated to PhD students, postdocs and academic or R&D researchers who wish to develop their knowledge in this domain.

To apply you have to fill in the application form :
with a short motivation letter (200 words max) and a short scientific abstract presenting your research activities and the topic of your poster (1 page, use the template available in the application form)
The school starts on Monday, April 13 for an arrival in the afternoon, and lasts till Friday April 24, at noon. On-site registration opens on Monday April 13, from 2pm.
Beware that the school is open to a limited number of 53 participants, due to the occupancy limit of the lecture room.
